Road Test Proves Tough as LSUS Falls 4-0 to Xavier (La.)
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- LSU Shreveport women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to Xavier University of Louisiana on Saturday on the road, as the Gold Nuggets secured the win behind a sweep of doubles play and strong performances at the top of the singles lineup.
Xavier took early control by claiming the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. The LSUS duo of Lidia Gomez and Ana Julia De Paula Mandrot fell 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano and Lucia Lucas were defeated 6-0 at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match, featuring Jade Derks and Christlyn Ross, was left unfinished.
In singles play, Xavier quickly added to its lead with straight-set wins on courts one, two, and five to clinch the match. Ana Julia De Paula Mandrot fell 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 1 position, while Lidia Gomez dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 2. At No. 5 singles, Christlyn Ross was defeated 6-1, 6-0.
Several other matches went unfinished once the team result was decided. Lucia Lucas led her match at No. 4 after taking the first set 6-3, while Jade Derks was also ahead early at No. 6. The No. 3 singles match between Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano and Anais Yakan was tightly contested before being halted.
