Pilots Pull Away Late to Down Jaguars 94-84
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – LSU Shreveport delivered a strong second-half performance Thursday night, defeating Texas A&M University-San Antonio 94-84 on the road to move to 22-5 overall and 19-2 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
In a contest that featured 11 ties and 16 lead changes, the Pilots leaned on their efficiency, depth, and dominance in the paint to secure the double-digit victory.
LSUS trailed 50-45 at halftime after the Jaguars knocked down key perimeter shots in the closing minutes of the opening frame. But the Pilots responded immediately in the second half behind Khi Wallace's relentless effort on the glass and around the rim.
Wallace recorded a game-high double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds, igniting multiple runs with powerful finishes and second-chance opportunities. His activity helped LSUS seize control midway through the half, pushing the lead to as many as 16 points with just under 10 minutes remaining.
The Pilots shot an impressive 60.3 percent from the field (38-of-63) and outscored the Jaguars 66-40 in the paint. LSUS also held a 40-35 rebounding advantage and received 54 bench points, overwhelming the Jaguars with depth and interior scoring.
Thaddeus Johnson added 19 points and two assists, providing timely scoring throughout the night. Hayden Brittingham posted a double-double of his own with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, impacting the game on both ends of the floor.
Emareyon McDonald contributed 15 points and five rebounds, helping the Pilots maintain offensive rhythm and spacing during key stretches of the second half.
Texas A&M-San Antonio was led by Antwone Gonzales, who poured in 36 points and added two assists. Gonzales kept the Jaguars within striking distance with timely three-pointers and aggressive drives to the basket.
Dezmon Dudley finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Joseph Taylor added 11 points and five rebounds. Despite hitting 10 three-pointers and scoring 21 second-chance points, the Jaguars were unable to match LSUS' efficiency inside and overall offensive balance.
With the win, the Pilots continue to solidify their position at the top of the RRAC standings having already claimed the RRAC regular season crown.
LSUS returns to action Saturday with another road contest against Our Lady of the Lake University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
