Shreveport, Louisiana— In a thrilling matchup between the LSU Shreveport Pilots and the University of the Southwest Mustangs, basketball fans were treated to a nail-biting contest that ended with the Pilots clinching a hard-fought victory, prevailing over the Mustangs with a final score of 65-60. With the win the Pilots keep their winning streak alive at 23 straight games and improve to an overall record of 25-2 and a conference record of 21-0.
The game began with the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest racing out to an early lead, dominating the first few minutes of play to establish a commanding 13-2 advantage over the Pilots within the first quarter. However, the Pilots swiftly regrouped, staging an impressive comeback in the latter half of the quarter. With sheer determination and resilience, they orchestrated a remarkable 16-point run, completely turning the tide in their favor to seize control of the quarter. By the end of the first period, the Pilots had managed to edge ahead, buoyed by their stellar performance.
Despite the Pilots' spirited resurgence, the second quarter remained fiercely contested, with both teams trading blows in a closely fought battle for supremacy. The Mustangs managed to claw back into contention, narrowly outscoring the Pilots 14-12 in the quarter.
